The Wild Escape | Slippery Slugs and Snails
This children's workshop is part of Art Fund's The Wild Escape project uniting museums with schools and families in a celebration of UK wildlife and creativity.
There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden… what else can we find outside?
Join us to create two-dimensional creatures out of paper inspired by the wildlife we find in our gardens. These will be displayed as part of a collaborative artwork for Earth Day on 22 April, and the display will be up until the end of May.
In this session we will be using paper, collage, paint and glue, to create colourful snails for our collaborative artwork. With reference to the empty snail shell in Lucian Freud’s painting currently on display in Lucian Freud: Plant Portraits, as well as Matisse’s giant snail collage, we will touch on the life of gastropods in the garden. Snails are gastropods with shells, whilst slugs are gastropods without shells.
