Branch Out | London Craft Week: Bargello Embroidery Workshop

This London Craft Week; Bargello Embroidery Workshop is part of the Garden Museum's new Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more! Join us on Thursdays: no need to book, just show up.

Celebrate London Craft Week by learning the art of bargello embroidery in a drop-in workshop with artist Cecilia Charlton.

Embroidery is an activity that is accessible for the whole family, and the style of the workshop focuses on the community bonds that can be formed over the ancient craft of stitching. In the workshop you can create small pieces of embroidery to take home, and there will also be a large embroidery frame where participants can contribute to a communal piece of art exploring the natural world.

At 12pm, Cecilia will be giving a short introduction to her site-specific large scale installation, Memory Garden, exhibited in our historic Nave for London Craft Week. Inspired by flowers that are often found in British gardens and that have personal relevance to the artist (hydrangea, peony, lily, and lavender), viewers will be invited to contemplate the relationship between textiles and gardening; both practices involving deep sensitivity to another form of growth, and a process of slowing down.

Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England
