Branch Out | Hazel Weaving

This workshop is part of the Garden Museum's new Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more!

Fancy turning your hand to an ancient arboreal craft? Join coppice-worker Alistair Hayhurst of Underwood Crafts for a workshop session on hazel weaving, as he demonstrates how to create a hazel fence the traditional way using split woven canes.

This workshop will take place in the museum’s new Healing Garden, designed by Dan Pearson and created in partnership with Lambeth, which is situated in our adjacent park of Old Paradise Gardens off Lambeth High Street. Bring warm clothing and an optional pair of gloves, and come and enjoy learning this timeless – and wonderfully sustainable – sylvan practice.

Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
