This workshop is part of the Garden Museum's new Branch Out programme, a series of free events and activities exploring gardening, art, floristry, plant science, history, design, and more! Join us on Thursdays: no need to book, just show up.
In the 16th century, lavender was planted near the laundry rooms in stately houses and clothing was laid over the plants to dry while absorbing the perfume. The tradition has continued ever since with lavender bags keeping lingerie and sock draws smelling sweet to this day.
In this drop in session, you can create your own stuffed lavender bag using scraps of recycled floral fabric and lavender cutting from the museum’s garden. We will use basic sewing skills, embroidery, and embellishment techniques to design and stuff small bags that you can take home with you.
Hosted by textile artist Alice Ridgway.
Our Branch Out programme has been made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
