Toby Musgrave: The Garden, Elements and Styles

While the Garden Museum was closed, we took the opportunity to reach out across the world and bring inspiring garden experts to you through our online events. Our first stop was Denmark and Dr Toby Musgrave, an authority on garden history. Toby devised and presented the BBC Radio 4 series The British Garden, and has written for many magazines and newspapers. He teaches garden history at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, and has also lectured at Oxford University and the Royal Horticultural Society.

To celebrate the launch of Toby Musgrave’s new book ‘The Garden: Elements and Styles’, published by Phaidon, this in-conversation looks at the influences that inspired the choices in this beautiful and comprehensive A – Z of the elements and styles of gardens both European and International. We delve into Toby’s varied CV from his PhD in Garden History, presenting on radio and TV and authoring 13 books and look at the challenges and rewards of gardening in the Danish climate. Ending this event, Toby gives a quick-fire 15 minute A – Z of his favourites from the book.
