Garden Museum
The shed which will be in our Christopher Bradley-Hole garden is part of the SHEDx project which encompasses a range of activities to activate and engage the local community of Tolworth to take ownership of their unused and green spaces to help define and improve the future for their town.
In a world where flat-packed sheds begin to dominate, the project has recreated one of the hand-crafted sheds on the Tolworth Main allotment. It has helped share the history of allotments and growing with the voices of oral testimonies collected by volunteers as part of the HLF funded project “Grow for Good” documenting the humble allotment from the wartime era to present. Inside is a display of work from the Kingston University Architecture students, who recreated and built this shed, based on their research on sheds and allotments, including those where the original shed was sited.
The shed has already been to the V&A Museum and RHS Hampton Court Flower Show where, accompanied by its community allotment plot, it was awarded a silver medal.
